My embroidered art is created using a free-motion machine embroidery technique. The magic ingredient is the base fabric that I work on, water-soluble fabric. With this unique and versatile fabric, I can create organic, embroidered structures that are then liberated from their base cloth by placing them in water. Designs may include solid stitching, lacy negative spaces, 3-dimentiional sculptural shapes, even a whole new fabric, the opportunities this base material offers are limitless.
Pieces are suspended on pins, inviting the viewer to be drawn into the depth and playfulness of the shadows that are created.

ECAC's SUNBURST AWARD is a microgrant designed to support artists of all disciplines and all ages with a specific project or opportunity that will provide a significant impact and expansion to their art career. Artists must either reside in Essex County or be able to demonstrate close ties to Essex County.
